4 c. safe vodka (I use Luksusowa, from potatoes)

1 c. water

1 c. cane or beet sugar

1 c. brown sugar

1 clove

1 orange

1 vanilla bean, split

In heavy saucepan, combine sugars, and water. Add zest of  one orange. Cut orange into 4 quarters. Squeeze juice into pan, then put orange segments into the pan as well. Bring to a boil. Boil for 5 minutes. Let cool 30 minutes. Strain out orange segments but not the zest. Pour into jar. Add vanilla bean and the clove. Let steep for 3-4 weeks, shaking every few days. Strain through cheesecloth. Keep in airtight container.
